JOINWELL

2009

The brief was to design a 4,500 square metre showroom in the front section of Joinwell’s existing factory that would benefit from its prominent position along a major road.

This request focused the design towards a façade resembling that of a modern-day doll’s house, conveying a strong retail lure. The new intervention had to appear as lightweight and transparent as possible to provide deep visibility across the floor plans to passers-by. At night, an ethereal internal glow highlights the products on display.

The building façade line was set back and gently curved to retain visibility of the adjacent historic mill. A six-metre overhang was extruded of the main façade to provide shade and create a prominent landmark building.
