LIBYA
MISURATA
2008
Set on the outskirts of the town of Misurata, on the Mediterranean coast of Libya, this project comprises of the conceptual design for a new village set over a site of 270,000 square metres, with all the related amenities and facilities.
The introduction of the sea to the heart of the site creates a unique residential setting in this part of the country, as well as creating an artificial island on the coast. This Island became the natural choice to locate a traditionally planned ‘Medina’ style area of development, mirroring the urban characteristics of its location.
The drivers for the project were sensitivity to its location, architectural sustainability, environmental awareness, and contribution to the local economy. The project consists of residential units comprising of villas, apartments and maisonettes, an office complex, educational and sports facilities, a hotel as well as a shopping centre and landscaped parks.
