LIBYA
NORTH GHERAN
2011
Situated in North Gheran, Libya, this architectural concept encompassed the creation of a medina, carved out of the land and encompassing a man-made lagoon. The proposal included varied residential typologies enhanced with a range of waterfront restaurants, boutique shops, bazaars and amenities all housed in a pedestrian ambience. Views are enhanced with the creation of the lagoon that gives rise to a unique and calming environment that is sheltered from the exposed cost. Matching the sea level, the lagoon is ideal for both swimming and small craft, whilst the two basins provide a unique opportunity to organise intimate concerts and events.
The design has been inspired by traditional, ethnic forms of development. The island’s compact feel and central piazza act as a backdrop to surrounding amenities and promotes social interaction through its creation of exciting meeting places.
