THE MALL

The project entailed the adaptation and extension of a 17th century traditional stone architecture into an office space for the Middle Sea Valletta Life Assurance Company.

A delicate dialogue was required to restore and execute the marriage of the traditional façade with a new contemporary style. Interventions were based on a thorough understanding of the form, proportion materials and history of the existing. The classical rhythm of the building was interpreted and expressed through the new aperture proportions and external grey steel joists that support the maintenance balconies within the new extension. Light softly diffuses through the steel grating and into the new internal atrium bringing natural light into the building’s interior.

The buildings contemporary extension compliments the old, yet at the same time, enhances and breathes new life to the existing through a bold new architecture.
