VALLETTA, MALTA

66 ST PAULS

2019

Located within Malta’s capital city, an opportunity arose to rehabilitate an abandoned 17th century palazzo, restoring it back to a symbol of traditional Maltese architecture.

A delicate balance was required that paid homage to and retained the unique, historic fabric, whilst modernising the spaces to create an attractive hotel experience.

The focal point of the Palazzo, is the classical courtyard which now houses the hotel’s lounge and bar area. Natural light floods the space where original features are retained and celebrated. A new, alluring steel staircase and walkways are carefully stitched into the historic fabric, complimenting the space with its open and fluid design. In the evening, subtle lighting softly brushes the walls, accentuating beautiful architectural elements, whilst creating a cosy ambience.

A sensitive approach to the extensions at the topmost floors creates impressive suites and a pavilion-like lounge, that enjoy breath-taking views across Valletta and the imposing Grand Harbour.
